DTM: Curtain-raiser to new season

Andrew Hopkins

The new DTM season commences on 17th May: ten events held on nine circuits in five different countries. Six of the races will be contested in Germany. But the most popular of all touring car series in Europe will also be putting in an appearance in France, the UK, the Netherlands and Spain, all of which count as core markets for the two automotive giants going head to head here, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

As usual, the Hockenheimring is hosting the opening race of the season – the 100th since the series was revived in the year 2000. Advance sales of tickets have passed the 40,000 figure, which implies that public interest is just as high as last season, before we were all filled with economic doom and gloom.
