General Motors to scrap Pontiac

Updated

In future, General Motors (GM) is only to be concentrating on four brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. Splits with Swedish subsidiary Saab - as well as with Saturn and Hummer - are already planned to take place during 2009. The Pontiac sports car marque will then reach the end of the road next year.

Pontiac was founded by GM back in 1926 and many models are known not just to an older generation: Firebird, Trans-Am, Corvette, GTO and the TV legend "Knight Rider" are probably familiar to most kids. The last GM marque to be discontinued was Oldsmobile in 2004. In the gallery, we pay tribute to ten of Pontiac's top models.
