Race of Champions moves to Bird's Nest Stadium

Updated

This year the annual Race of Champions is moving from London's Wembley stadium to the National Stadium in China. The ultimate finale to the 2009 motor sports season takes place in the Bird's Nest stadium and will be the first major event staged there since the Olympic Games in the summer of 2008. For the first time ever, the race will run over two days and is scheduled for the 3rd and 4th November, straight after this season's Formula One climax in Abu Dhabi.

Li Jianyi, General Manager of Great Gate, the company that runs the Bird's Nest, is looking forward to it: "Since the Olympic Games, we have had one of the world's greatest sports stadiums and we intend to continue hosting top international events in Beijing. We're very excited about the forthcoming Race of Champions. The stadium has already played host to the world's fastest athletes and will now welcome its fastest drivers." In recent years, the top drivers from various motor sports have competed. After Paris and London, Beijing is now the first venue to be used outside Europe.
