Project P.U.M.A.

Updated

Project P.U.M.A. is not the title of a new James Bond film, but rather an acronym for "Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility" . It is an iniative by the General Motors and Segway companies, the objective being the development of a two-wheeled electric vehicle for two persons to provide swifter, safer, quieter and cleaner urban mobility at a lower cost.

The nippy little city streaker was presented at the New York Auto Show. The prototype was designed for two passengers and actually reaches a maximum speed of 36mph. The electrical range is 35 miles so that you can flash across town at full speed for one hour. In the case of this electrical vehicle, the developers are talking of something that will cost between one third and one quarter of the costs that are usually incurred from vehicle maintenance and operation.
