Formula One: Sensational opening race in Melbourne

Updated

What a topsy-turvy start to the new Formula One season! Every year, speculation is rife after the winter tests as to which team will have the edge. In recent years, it has always turned out to be the usual suspects hogging the champagne on the podium. Things were different this time round in Melbourne. The former Honda team, reincarnated only a few short weeks ago as Brawn GP, were the big winners in the curtain-raiser event.

Brawn drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello starred in the 'Fairytale of Melbourne'. The Englishman came in 0.807 seconds ahead of his Brazilian team-mate who benefited from a collision between Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel during the closing stage of the race.
