Updated

Sporty and economical to run are the twin selling points for the new Golf GTD from Volkswagen. At the Auto Mobil International (AMI) to be held in Leipzig between 28th March and 5th April 2009, the high-end diesel version of the Golf VI will celebrate its world debut, dressed up in GTI apparel. The new GTD is powered by a 170bhp two-litre TDI engine – the first time it has been fitted in a Golf. The newcomer from Wolfsburg accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 8.1 seconds and has a listed top speed of 222kph. Diesel consumption is claimed to be 53mpg. With CO2 emissions of 139 grams per kilometre, the GTD has been designed to project an eco-friendly image.
