US Formula One team takes shape

Updated

The American USF1 team continues to make preparations for its entry into Formula One. In the meantime, a clock is counting down the minutes on the official website, suggesting an official announcement is due on 24th February at midday GMT.

Now speculation is rife about who could be occupying the cockpits in the USF1 team. It should come as no great surprise that one of these names is Danica Patrick. After this speedy US lady driver had demonstrated her fine attributes both in the Indycar series and in 'Sports Illustrated' magazine, any such signing is bound to attract a lot of media attention. Formula One could become interesting for the Americans once again, despite the current absence of a US circuit from the Grand Prix calendar.

The rumour mill has thrown up the name of Scott Speed as the second driver. Speed already spent two seasons in Formula One (2006 and 2007) driving for Scuderia Toro Rosso. At the moment, though, he is competing in the American Nascar series. Two promising young American drivers are also in the frame: Conor Daly and Josef Newgarden.
