Lotus CIV (Concept Ice Vehicle)

Updated

Can you pick up your car and plonk it down it in front of your house? Almost certainly not. But if you had a CIV, that would be no trouble at all. In designing this vehicle, Lotus went for extremely light construction – after all, it has to drive across ice without cracking it.

The CIV is powered by a bioethanol engine and a propeller. Instead of tyres, ground contact is via three runners that enable it to glide over ice and snow. The vehicle is intended for use on Trans-Antarctic expeditions.
