Buying, not selling

Updated

Buying or selling? It's a constant whirl. After announcing his intention to sell his stake in Toro Rosso, Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz has gone and bought up the shareholding of team co-owner Gerhard Berger. So Red Bull now own two Formula One teams outright – and this is after Mateschitz stated that there was no long-term future in operating two separate outfits.

So far, so illogical. But a man like Dietrich Mateschitz is hardly going to do something that defies logic. In view of a successful season in which Toro Rosso even managed to beat Red Bull Racing, the stable is now worth more than at any time since it was set up. In order to get the best selling price, it makes sense to have just one owner calling the shots. So far, so logical. But who knows whether Mateschitz is planning to be a vendor or a purchaser in the near future? When you've got a bank balance like his, it's not easy to decide which way to go.
