Olympic swimmer will duel one of the ocean's swiftest killers for Shark Week

Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps will race a great white shark on July 23 for this year's Shark Week.

The sports star will be featured next month on Discovery Channel for the special titled, 'Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Discovery Channel'.

A statement from Discovery Channel says: "They are one of the fastest andmost efficient predators on the planet.

"Michaal Phelps. 39 records. 23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win. An event so monumental that no one has ever attempted it before."

The decorated Olympian has the mos medals of any Olympian.

Great white sharks can reach speeds of 25 mph, while Phelps' top speed is six miles per hour.
