RNLI rescues man in Thames trying to save stranger's dog

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Metropolitan Police marine unit has rescued a man who jumped into the Thames to save a dog that wasn't his.

When the RNLI boat was called just before 8pm on Sunday, they found the barefoot man balancing on a chain by the river wall, clutching the drenched dog in his hands.

Dramatic footage shows the crew pluck both of them to safety before helping them back up on the embankment.

As the dog is passed back to his grateful owner, he runs over to thank both the man and the crew who saved him.
