A 15 tonne humpback whale bursts from the sea like a missile being fired from under the water into the air.
The huge mammal amazed wildlife photographer Dmitry Vilyunov as it burst from the water just 100 metres away from him.
After breaking from the water vertically, the whale then slowly fell back into the water causing a large splash.
Dmitry took the amazing pictures while on a boat in the Caribbean sea off the coast of the island of Haiti.
The photographer, from Smolensk, Russia, could not believe it when he saw the large whale come out of the water so close to him.
He said: "It was magnificent to see such a fantastic creature up close.
"It was so huge and just 100 metres away from me when it jumped out of the water.
"It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
"The whale emerged from the water, going straight up into the air before then falling slowly onto his back and under the water.
"As it splashed back into the water it made quite a loud noise."
