Stray cat wanders into nursing home, gets job

A stray cat wandered into a nursing home in Cleveland, Ohio, five years ago and has had the role of looking out for residents ever since.

Oreo "gives residents something to look for, to care about, to love on," Dana Carns, director of advancement at St. Augustine Health Ministries, told The Huffington Post.

The nursing home has more than 200 residents, some coping with strokes or brain injuries.

"Oreo is not a 'lap cat' but likes to be close," Carns said. "She loves to have her head scratched. Residents, staff and the children from our early learning centre, look for Oreo. She is most often the greeter."

The black and white cat provides comfort and love to the home's residents and employees.

She lives on the main floor and loves being around people.

Carns said: "She's a great addition to our family."
