A woman has lost her right arm and leg after fainting while on a Subway platform in New York and falling into the path of an oncoming train.

According to NBC New York, she fell in front of the train and became trapped underneath it.

The Daily Mail reports that the train driver slammed on the brakes, but was unable to stop in time.

She lost her right leg below the knee and her right arm below the elbow.

Yu reportedly regained consciousness and was alert as rescue workers pulled her from beneath the train.

Onlookers shared images of the scene, sending their thoughts and prayers to Yu.

Her parents have flown in from China to support their daughter through the recovery. A source told the NY Daily News: "Her family is devastated," said the close pal, who asked not to be identified. "There's a lot of stuff they need to figure out right now ... She's going to have a lot to go through."
