Falling luggage from overhead lockers is bad enough - but falling snakes are something else altogether.

It appears that Samuel L Jackson's ill-fated film premise came true recently when a snake dropped from the overhead lockers of a plane.

Video footage shows the bright green reptile hanging from the ceiling, under the overhead bins, before dropping dramatically above an unsuspecting passenger.

The viper can be seen writhing around the ceiling of the AeroMexico flight before one end falls.

The footage was taken by Indalecio Medina on his mobile phone.

Medina told the Guardian: "I was reading a magazine and the passenger next to me saw it.

"It was a frightening situation... but people remained calm because it didn't get out of that space and nobody became hysterical.

"So people got up to see what kind of reptile it was, but nobody got carried away."

Luckily, for both the passengers and the animal, the plane was met by animal control workers after landing in Mexico City.

According to ABC News the airline are currently looking into how the snake made its way into the cabin.

Speaking to CNN, Aeromexico said: "The procedures carried out for this flight are currently being evaluated to determine how the animal entered the cabin and measures have been taken to avoid such incidents in the future."
