If you're dreaming of your next weekend in Europe, you'll be surprised to find that it's not as expensive as you think, with a spare £27 bagging you a stay in Thessaloniki, Sofia or Bucharest.

Airbnb found that Poland trumps as the cheapest country, featuring three cities out of the top 25: Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw, each with a typical nightly value of just £30.

But it's Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, which topped the list for offering accommodation at just £24 per night, meaning you can enjoy the ever-lively arts and cultural scene without breaking the bank. Ranking second, a luxury city oasis in Belgrade, Serbia is yours for just £27 a night.

Other cities, such as Vilnius in Lithuania and Catania in Sicily, offer a wealth of chic lofts and roof terrace apartments for just £34 per night. Further afield, Athens in Greece and Bratislava in Slovakia offer places to stay for just £35.

On the higher end - but still for as little as £35 per night - city breakers can enjoy a stylish apartment in Zadar (Croatia), Riga (Latvia), Toulouse (France), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Palermo (Sicily). Meanwhile, Nantes in France serves as an alternative to Paris for those seeking their next French retreat, with a typical nightly price of just £37.
