When you hear the name Arnold Schwarzenegger the first thing you may think of is the Terminator or body building, but it turns out even the most macho men get into scary situations sometimes.

This is exactly what happened during the 68-year-old's recent safari experience.

In a video shared to YouTube the popular action star and former governor of California has captured a large elephant in South Africa racing towards the safari vehicle he's sitting in.

The elephant approaches the vehicle, even tapping it with his tusk.

The animal eventually backed away but just when they thought the coast was clear he got a little too close for comfort.

The former politician got candid when describing the terrifying experience, he wrote: "I'm absolutely in awe of these beautiful, strong animals, even though some of us had to change our pants after this. We need to stop killing them - take a photo, not a shot."

Schwarzenegger also tweeted a photo a few days ago alongside another member of South Africa's wild animal population.

The image shows the actor standing incredibly close to what appears to be a white lion as it lunges in the air to grab a chunk of flying meat.
