The friend, called Carmen Edmunds, shared his image on Facebook in a bid to find his family.

According to the Metro and the Mirror, she wrote: "Does anyone know this man he's definitely English? My friend in Hurghada in Egypt found him wandering the streets.

"He seems to have lost his memory. He doesn't know who he is or where he's from please can everybody post this on to their Facebook and let's find his family."

After her message was shared thousands of times, another Facebook user, Hassan Monhsen, shared a copy of his passport.

The image identified him as a 35-year-old man from Leamington Spa.

This seemed to lead to a positive outcome for the confused man.

According to The Sun, Monhsen later explained: "Thanks friends for your care. I met him and I know where he is living now, and his dad with him at Hurghada."
