A spokesman for London car firm Fletchdale Ltd told the Sun: "It went to a buyer unaware of its former owner.

"Someone unwittingly bought a slice of royalty."

The green X-Type had just 7,600 miles on the clock when it was sold.

The Queen was pictured driving the car around Windsor last year but recently decided to sell it.

According to the Daily Mail, an incident last year saw the Queen have to swerve off the road to avoid a family out for a stroll.

Scarlett Vincent and Toby Core, who were out walking with their baby son, were stunned when they realised who was driving the car.
