Each of the boutique hotel's 32 guest rooms and suites are individually designed to evoke the style of a luxurious country house.

Winner of the Top Hotels category for the UK in the 2016 Travellers' Choice Awards, Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons was also named the third best hotel in Europe and sixth in the world.

One traveller impressed by the Great Milton bolthole said: "Of course the rooms, service and meals are outstanding. But it is more than that. It is the genuine and respectful friendliness shown by all the staff."

Another guest praised the "unparalleled service" and "very friendly, attentive staff".

Jan-Paul Kroese, General Manager at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons told AOL Travel: "It is an honour to be awarded number one UK hotel. Without listening to the feedback of our discerning guests, we would not be in a position to continue to execute the high levels of service, hospitality and cuisine that we have done for over three decades. We continue to strive for perfection and exceed the expectations of every guest."

A night at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons during its least expensive month of September will set you back £677. While this may be steep for many travellers, TripAdvisor reviewers say the experience is well worth it for those who willing to splash out.

2015's Travellers' Choice Awards saw Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons come fourth in the best British hotels category. It was beaten by Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate, The Milestone Hotel in London and the capital's Haymarket Hotel which took first place.

For this year, London's The Milestone Hotel came second, followed by Harrogate's Rudding Park Hotel, The Morley Hayes Hotel in Derbyshire and The Goring, where the Duchess of Cambridge famously spent her last night before marrying Prince William.
