Air France flight makes emergency landing after 'bomb' found in toilet

An Air France flight from Mauritius to Paris made an emergency landing in Kenya after a device suspected to be a bomb was found in a toilet.

A Kenyan police official said on Sunday that pilots of the Boeing 777 requested to land at Moi International Airport in the capital Mombasa following the discovery.

The aircraft and airport were safely evacuated before the item was removed from the plane.

According to the BBC, several passengers were questioned by authorities in Kenya.

Cabinet secretary for the interior ministry Joseph Nkaissery: "A number of passengers are still under interrogation as part of the probe and we don't want to talk more before we establish what and who was behind it."

On its Facebook page, the Kenya Airports Authority wrote: "We confirm of an emergency landing by Air France's flight from Mauritius at Moi Int'l Airport this morning after reports of a suspicious object was found on board.

"The object has successfully been retrieved from the Paris bound flight. Scheduled flights to Mombasa were disrupted this morning due to the incident.

"Normal airport operations have resumed at Moi International Airport. Investigations are underway by the National Security Agents on the ground and Air France."

An Air France spokesperson told The Guardian that a substitute plane was sent to Kenya to pick up the passengers.
