There are a few things you might expect to end up on the end of your line when you head out for a day's fishing on the beach in South Australia: maybe a nice big fish or, if your unlucky, someone's old and abandoned flip flop.

But one man was in for a big surprise when he felt something pull on the end of his fishing line.

The footage shows the keen fisherman start to reel in the catch as it tugs against the flimsy rod and line.

Moments later the man's friend can be heard saying: "You want the rope?"

He replies saying: "No, should be alright thanks mate, it's not that big."

But it turns out he slightly underestimated the size of the fish. He dashed into the shallow waters of the sea only to find that he had caught an eight foot long shark!

He dragged the animal out onto the beach to have a proper look at it before taking the shark back into the water and setting him free again.

In August this year the Daily Mail reported the story of an 18 foot long tiger shark that was caught off the coast of a surfing beach in Australia.

The enormous animal was dragged out of the water and onto a fishing boat off Seven Mile Beach on the New South Wales Coast which is one of the most popular surfing beaches in the country.
