The white substance that has formed on the trees in this video is technically known as 'hard rime', a pure white ice that is created when there's cool air over a warm, moist surface such as a body of water or damp soil, MNN reports.

This striking natural phenomenon, also known as freezing fog, is famous all over country and attracts plenty of visitors each year, despite the fact that it can make roads extremely hazardous.

According to MNN, freezing fog can occur anywhere but it's most likely to appear in mountain areas at night when temperatures drop.

Jilin Province is known for its monsoon climate with long and cold winters and hot, humid summers. Average temperatures in the first few months of the year can be as low as -17C.
