World's best restaurants 2015

A Spanish restaurant has been awarded the prestigious accolade of 'Best Restaurant in the World' in TripAdvisor's 2015 Traveller's Choice Awards.

Martin Berasategui in Lasarte, near San Sebastian, Spain, topped this year's list. Run by a Basque chef of the same name, the restaurant has been awarded three Michelin stars since 2001 and the chef himself has an impressive eight stars to his name.

Dishes on the menu include delicacies such as "Sea crunch tempura with Txakoli wine mayonnaise and citrus gel", "Crispy golden Swiss chard stems with scallops in their own aniseed-flavoured sea juice", and "Saffron veil with melt-in-your-mouth macaroons and tea flower ice cream."

Berasategui's cooking combines creativity and modern Spanish cuisine and TripAdvisor reviewers simply couldn't praise it highly enough.

"The food was perfect. It was creative and intriguing(with a few surprises along the way) without being unnecessary and showy. Everything tastes amazing," raves one.

Another says: "We have dined in a great number of top flight Michelin restaurants over the years. This is the best. The flavors are sublimely melded, understated and perfectly balanced. Perfection. Worth every euro and then some. Would go here on a special occasion or at any opportunity that arose. Tough to get a reservation but worth traveling to as a special destination!"

Three restaurants from the UK made the top ten in the world this year, including Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons in Great Milton, which was placed ninth.
