It may have been revealed that more people have been killed by selfies than sharks, but that doesn't mean you'd want to cuddle up to a shark any time soon.

As the footage above shows, this diver certainly wasn't keen to make friends with the great white shark who surprised him underwater recently.

The film begins with the man floating calmly through the green and blue tinted waters before the animal makes its appearance.

What appears to be the sea bed becomes visible through the cloudy water and a split second later a shark's head appears on camera as the animal swims past.

Even though the deadly creature doesn't even appear to notice the scuba diver or his camera, the man panics and can be heard screaming and shouting through his oxygen mask.

It quickly becomes clear why, as the shark reappears and seems to be heading straight towards him, only to divert at the last minute.

Talk about a lucky escape.

It's thought that around 75 people are killed each year as the result of shark attacks - and they are on the increase in many areas, including parts of Australia and the USA.
