Puerto Vallarta, a popular Mexican beach resort on the Caribbean, is the largest city in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

The state is known for its colourful artwork, street food and also for being the birthplace of Tequila.

The resort sits on the Bahía de Banderas (Bay of Flags) which is known for its beautiful wildlife and tropical fish and vibrantly coloured coral.

Dolphins, whales and manta rays can often be seen between the months of December and April.

The city's Zona Romántica is home to the Playa los Muertos which is a hotspot for beach lovers and sun seekers alike as well as playing host to a number of scenic beach bars.

Thanks to Puerto Vallarta's coastal location, day trips to other islands are easy and there are plenty of sights to see in the surrounding area.

The uninhabited Marieta Islands are a favourite with visitors due to their wealth of marine life, underwater caves and the 'Hidden Beach' which was created as a result of military testing in the area.

The Tropicana Hotel looks out over the Bahía de Banderas and is just a ten minute drive from Puerto Vallarta.

Or spend a night or two at the Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta and enjoy the tropical paradise that can be found at the city's Las Estacas Beach.
