Brits are beating Germans in the sunlounger war

There's been a turnaround for Brits abroad as it appears we're finally starting to win the war over sun loungers.

It has been revealed that Brits are getting up earlier to make sure they get a decent spot by the pool in Spain.

The German newspaper Bild conducted the research at a resort in Alcudia, Majorca, and found that Brits were getting up as early as 6am to race down to the pool and chuck a towel over a sun lounger to 'reserve' it.

The paper also noted that all the sun loungers were taken before 9am even though there wasn't a tourist in sight.

According to the Telegraph, Bild did similar research last year in the popular resort of Lloret de Mar, Costa Brava.

However it appears that habits have changed massively in the last 12 months given that this time last year not even one sun lounger had been 'reserved' at 7.36am.

It's an interesting turn of events given that for years British tourists have claimed that German tourists are the ones rising early to dash down to the pool and nab a sunny spot for the day.

An investigation by a German lawyer in 2005 revealed that there is no law against removing a fellow tourist's towel from a sun lounger.

According to the BBC, Ralf Hoecker researched both German and Spanish laws to find out whether you can legally claim a sun lounger with a towel.
