Updated

Wondering what to do with the kids over the summer holidays? We've rounded up some brilliant things to do, including free activities, for fun-filled days out and things to do in London.

From watching a film on a rooftop with the teens, to inspiring little architects to get building with a look at London's fantastic mix of architectural wonders, these events will keep the whole family entertained over the school holidays.

For exciting entertainment everyone can enjoy, head for Chinatown where the first Family Day Festival will be held this summer. The event promises an array of entertainment and activities for children of all ages, plus traditional Chinese acts, martial arts and a gravity-defying cube spinning display.

If you haven't been to The London Dungeon yet, now is the time to visit as the attraction is hosting a Summer Carnivale with plenty of scary fun indoors if the weather takes a turn for the worse. A special exhibition at Buckingham Palace offers a glimpse of life as a young royal, with toys and tiny childhood outfits on display.

And there's no need to worry about the post-holiday blues as Blue Ribbon Village brings free activities along the River Thames from 13 to 14 September, so the children can look forward to festival music and arts and crafts beside City Hall even after they go back to school.
