Hot holidays for October

Want a holiday in October, in desperate need of sunshine but don't know where to go? The summer may be over in the UK, but don't despair. It's still possible to top up your tan somewhere gloriously warm - and this is the perfect time to bag a cheap holiday too.

This is a great month to take a holiday in Turkey, for example - not least because of the bargains on offer. The Lycian Coast (also known as the Turquoise Coast) boasts warm temperatures and long days of sunshine, and the sea temperature remains high, so it's perfect for swimming and snorkelling. The climate at this time of year is also great for exploring the classical sites and trekking through the lovely Taurus Mountains.

Dubai, too, is a sure bet for sun lovers. As the temperatures drop from the scorching 40s into the more bearable 30s, it's far more comfortable, and you'll be able to sit out on terraces at hotels and restaurants without having to dive in to the nearest air-conditioned building.
