You might think that the last few days have been bitterly cold - but forecasters predict that it's going to get colder still.

The Daily Star reports that temperatures could drop to -20C next week, and some parts of the UK will be cooler than Vladivostock, Siberia, where it will be a bitterly cold -9C at night.

Met Office forecasters warn that up to 8cm of snow could fall in the south east today, before moving towards the north Midlands and northeast England.

And the Weather Channel forecaster Leon Brown told AOL Travel that we can expect it to remain very cold with severe frosts.

He said: "There will be more sleet and snow over the south west and central Britain on Monday, and snow showers in the east again on Tuesday while another band of sleet and snow will move over part of Ireland and SW England. There won't be much snow after Tuesday, when the main focus will be severe night frosts. Temperatures of -15C to -20C are possible in the Midlands, south west England and in the Highlands. Early next week temperatures won't be much above zero, and will drop to -5 at night."

According to the Daily Mail, the cold weather could last for two weeks. Met Office forecaster Robin Thwaytes said: "It looks like it will be a slow thaw, probably taking place this week or the week after."

The Daily Mail reports that the AA have warned of treacherous driving conditions and the Highways Agency has confirmed that snow ploughs and gritters will be out in force over the weekend to keep roads as clear as possible.
