A British man, on holiday in the Costa de Sol resort of Benalmádena, has been killed by a hit-and-run driver.

Typically Spanish reports that the body of the 26-year-old man from Bolton, Lancs - who has not yet been named - was found at 5am on Friday by police, who were on a routine patrol.

The accident took place on the avenida Antonia Machado. The man is thought to have died instantly, with his body showing injuries which suggested he had been run over. Police say he also appeared to have hit a balustrade, which runs along the roadside.

The Daily Star reports that he was staying in the resort, which is near Málaga, with three friends.

An hour later a local man, also aged 26, was arrested after police spotted his damaged car in Torremolinos. He was charged with manslaughter and failing to stop after an accident.
