British teen in Magaluf balcony fall
A British teenager is in intensive care after falling 30ft from a third-floor balcony at the Hotel Martinique in Magaluf.
The Sun reports that Jordan Coombes fell 30ft from his balcony at 4.30am on Tuesday, just hours after he arrived at the hotel.
A witness told the newspaper that he had been spotted "fooling around jumping from balcony to balcony."
This takes the number of Britons who have been involved in falls at Spanish hotels up to 13 this year. Three Brits have died as a result of these falls in Magaluf alone - including one at the same hotel.
Back in April, Adam Atkinson, 20, from Castleford, Yorks, died after he fell down stairs at the Martinique. According to reports, he had been drinking heavily beforehand and lost his balance on the stairs.
Doctors have said that Jordan, from Tameside, Gtr Manchester, is lucky to be alive. He suffered severe leg injuries and bruising as a result of the fall and his condition is said to be very serious.
Recent figures from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office reveal that there has been a rise in the number of British holidaymakers admitted to hospital while abroad, especially in popular destinations such as Spain, Greece and Egypt.
Balcony falls are the second most common cause of hospital admissions, second only to car accidents.
