A new survey has found that almost half of Britons are "seriously considering" moving overseas, with Australia, the US, Canada and New Zealand proving to be the most popular relocation spots.

The survey of 1,650 adults, which was commissioned by The Sun, has found that the high cost of living, bad weather, unemployment and crime are the main reasons that 48 per of people say they are considering leaving Britain.

Three in five percent of respondents said that they think quality of life will be worse for their children than it has been for them, and only 13 per cent think that their children will have it better.

Six per cent of those surveyed are actively making plans to leave, and a further 42 per cent say they will seriously consider it.

More than half (52 per cent) say that the cost of living was a good reason to leave, followed by the weather (37 per cent), lack of jobs (31 per cent) and crime (27 per cent).

And it seems that most people don't think there's much about Britain that they would miss: a quarter said that they would miss the British countryside, 19 per cent would miss the NHS and 10 per cent would miss TV.

Standards of education, pollution and the environment were all listed as good reasons for moving abroad - and 11 per cent listed 'British people' as their motivation to leave.

Just 11 per cent said that there was nothing that could make them want to leave the UK.
