Spring hasn't sprung yet: Cold snap biting back this weekend

We may have enjoyed unseasonably warm weather in Britain over the last 10 days, but weather forecasters have warned the temperatures are set to fall this weekend.

Leon Brown, a meteorologist at The Weather Channel, told the Express that an "Arctic plunge" will hit the UK tomorrow night, bringing the possibility of snow in the North.

He told the paper: "Tuesday morning will probably be the coldest next week with -5C in places."

Although some parts of the country have enjoyed temperatures of 18C - around three times the average for this time of year - the mercury is likely to drop to -3C in the North on Sunday, and the South is unlikely to get above freezing, experiencing frosts overnight.

Dan Williams of the Met Office told Aol Travel: "This weekend will see a marked change in the weather compared to the exceptionally mild conditions we have enjoyed this week. Saturday will see a band of rain moving through quite quickly in the morning, clearing to leave brighter weather in most places - although some showers are possible. Top temperatures will be about 10-11C.

"Sunday will see some wintry showers in northern Scotland and NI, mainly on higher ground. In the South and East of the UK there will be some persistent rain and this could be heavy at times. Top temps on Sunday will be 7 to 8C, but feeling colder in the rain, minimum temps will be 0 to 3C.

"Then as we head into next week, Monday and Tuesday will see fine weather in many places but it will be cold - this could see night frosts with min temps of -1 to -3C. Top temps during the day will be 7 to 8C.

"Looking further ahead, the picture looks unsettled for the latter half of the week as wind and rain are set to spread in from the North West.
