A 10-year-old girl has been killed by a crocodile in Indonesia as her father and brother looked on helplessly.

The family had been hunting for turtles when the girl, called Juraida, was dragged into the water by a large saltwater crocodile, according to the Daily Mail.

A rescue team was sent to the scene, but so far a body has not been found, although a dress and hair ribbon were discovered on sand nearby.

Locals in the East Nusatenggara province, where the attack took place, have told of a recent loss of livestock and also reported the death of a young boy in the same river last month.

The saltwater crocodile is the word's largest living reptile and is found in Northern Australia, India, and Southeast Asia.
