It's official: Brits abroad are biggest boozers

A new survey has confirmed what most of us probably already suspected: that Brits are Europe's heaviest drinkers on holiday.

Well, we've got to be the best at something, haven't we?

The poll by Tripadvisor found that we might deserve our infamous 'Brits abroad' reputation, with 65 per cent of us saying we drink more when we're away than at home, compared with only 41 per cent of Europeans doing the same.

The survey of 6,000 holidaymakers from the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, showed that while 29 per cent of Brits enjoy five or more alcoholic drinks a day while abroad, only 10 per cent of Europeans do so.

It's not all bad news, though. The results also revealed that we're the least likely to smoke more when we're on a break, with Italians enjoying a holiday puff the most.

And while 94 per cent of Britons are careful about applying sunscreen, 12 oer cent of the French admitted to not caring about it all.

So who came out the healthiest holidaymakers? Brits came in third, while Italians trailed at the bottom, and Spaniards picked up the most healthiest crown.
