Toner agrees three-year Ireland extension

Updated:

Ireland second row Devin Toner has signed a new contract with Leinster and the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) that will run until June 2020.

Toner started three of Ireland's four November internationals as Joe Schmidt's side ended New Zealand's unbeaten run in Chicago before beating Australia last weekend at the Aviva Stadium.

Since making his international debut in 2010 Toner has won 42 caps for his country, and was part of the squads that claimed the Six Nations title in 2014 and 2015.

During his club career with Leinster, Toner has also collected three European Cups and three Pro12 titles in his 187 appearances.

"I am delighted to have re-signed with the IRFU and Leinster. There is a huge amount of talent coming through at Leinster and it is a really exciting time to be involved with the province," Toner said.

"There is a real opportunity to be successful at both provincial and national level over the coming years and I look forward to playing a part in helping to achieve that success."

IRFU performance director David Nucifora added: "Devin is a top class international second row and has grown into a leader for both Ireland and Leinster.

"His performances for Ireland over the past number of seasons have been outstanding and he continues to show growth and an appetite to develop his game."
