Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond believes Castleford Tigers wing Denny Solomona has "resigned" from league.
Solomona, 23, scored a record-breaking 40 tries in the Super League during the 2016 season.
He has attracted interest from elsewhere, and reports suggest the New Zealand-born star wants a move.
Diamond confirmed numerous teams were chasing Solomona, including the Sharks.
"Denny Solomona has resigned from playing rugby league and us, and many other clubs, are interested in signing him," he told the BBC.
"He's got a friendship with [Sharks centre] Sam Tuitupou and he's been to have a look around and at this moment that is where we're at with it."
