Ekaterina Alexandrova defied the odds to claim a first WTA title by stunning defending champion Caroline Garcia in the Engie Open de Limoges final, while fellow Russian Evgeniya Rodina also won her maiden WTA tournament on Sunday.
Alexandrova dumped Alize Cornet at the semi-final stage on Saturday and Garcia was also shocked by the outsider in her homeland a day later, losing 6-4 6-0.
Garcia is 109 places above Alexandrova in the world rankings, but you would never have known that was the case as the unseeded 22-year-old blew the top seed away.
The world number 133 broke five times and served seven aces to pull off an upset, taking just 66 minutes to wrap up her maiden WTA crown at the expense of an opponent who beat her in the first round of this tournament last year.
Rodina failed to read the script in the OEC Taipei WTA Challenger final, where Chang Kai-chen was beaten 6-4 6-3 in her homeland.
