Bears' Jeffery suspended for performance-enhancing drugs violation

Updated:

The Chicago Bears will be without Pro Bowl wide receiver Alshon Jeffery for the next four games after he was suspended without pay for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Jeffery's suspension begins immediately and he will be eligible to return to the Bears' active roster on December 12.

Jeffery, who is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason, has 630 receiving yards on 40 catches and one touchdown this season.

Playing on the franchise tag, the suspension is a major hit to Jeffery's wallet as it will cost him $3,435,058.

Cameron Meredith and Eddie Royal will see additional snaps at receiver in Jeffery's absence against the New York Giants, Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions.
