Flanker Jaco Kriel and prop Jannie du Plessis have pulled out of South Africa's upcoming tour of Europe and been replaced by Nizaam Carr and Lourens Adriaanse, respectively.
Kriel has been ruled out for eight weeks after picking up a knee injury on club duty with Kubota Spears in Japan, while Du Plessis has been granted leave due to his wife expecting their third child in early November.
Both Carr and Adriaanse were already involved in the squad but will now stay on as replacements for the absent duo ahead of matches against England, Italy and Wales over the three weekends following the clash with the Barbarians at Wembley on November 5.
Despite 33-year-old Du Plessis pulling out, Springboks coach Allister Coetzee feels the experienced international will still have plenty of future opportunities.
"Jannie and I had a good conversation on Wednesday evening and he still has a burning desire to be part of the Springboks," Coetzee said.
"However, due to his current personal circumstances, he unfortunately had to withdraw from the squad.
"Jannie has a wealth of experience, he still has a lot to offer and he stays part of our plans. I want to wish him and his wife well as they are looking forward to welcome a third addition to their family."
