Crosby back with a goal, Stamkos stars

Sidney Crosby made a goalscoring return for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL, while the Tampa Bay Lightning won again.

Making his first appearance of the season, Crosby scored as the Penguins edged the Florida Panthers 3-2.

Steven Stamkos was the star for the Lightning, who thrashed the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-3.

The Detroit Red Wings also claimed their fifth win of the campaign, while the Minnesota Wild shut out the Boston Bruins.

 

CROSBY COMEBACK

Back from a concussion, Crosby scored in the second period as the Penguins cut the Panthers' lead.

Reilly Smith and Mark Pysyk had put the Panthers 2-0 up before Crosby's goal and another from Carl Hagelin.

Eric Fehr would score the match-winner nine minutes, 42 seconds into the third period.

 

STELLAR STAMKOS

The Lightning controlled the Maple Leafs, and Stamkos finished with four points after two goals and two assists.

Stamkos scored two of the Lightning's three first-period goals, and they also struck three times in the third.

The win was Tampa Bay's fifth in six games.

 

RED WINGS WIN AGAIN

The Red Wings extended their winning streak to five with a 4-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Dylan Larkin scored his first two goals of the season in the win.

 

WELCOME BACK, SIDNEY

WILD WIN

The Wild were 5-0 winners over the Bruins, the New Jersey Devils edged the Arizona Coyotes 5-3 and the Philadelphia Flyers had a 4-3 shoot-out victory against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Calgary Flames got the better of the St Louis Blues 4-1, the Dallas Stars overcame the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 and the San Jose Sharks had a 2-1 overtime victory against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Ottawa Senators shut out the Vancouver Canucks 3-0 and the Los Angeles Kings needed OT to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2.

 

CANADIENS, OILERS IN ACTION

The Montreal Canadiens will aim to make it five straight wins when they visit the New York Islanders. The Oilers (5-1-0) are at home to the Washington Capitals.
