Oilers too good for Jets, Parise nets in loss

The Edmonton Oilers shut out the Winnipeg Jets in the Heritage Classic in the NHL, while Zach Parise scored a milestone goal.

Edmonton goaltender Cam Talbot made 31 saves in the Oilers' 3-0 outdoor victory on Sunday.

Parise netted the 300th NHL goal of his career, but his Minnesota Wild went down to the New York Islanders 6-3.

There were also wins for the New York Rangers and the Anaheim Ducks.

 

TALBOT TAMES JETS

As Talbot shut out the Jets, the Oilers scored three second-period goals to improve to 5-1-0.

Mark Letestu, Darnell Nurse and Zack Kassian found the net as the Oilers' impressive start to the season continued.

 

PARISE BRINGS UP 300 AND 301

The Islanders' offense came to life against the Wild, who had Parise score twice.

Three-goal second and third periods set up the Islanders, with John Tavares finishing with two goals and an assist.

 

OILERS ENTERTAIN

RANGERS, DUCKS WIN

Dan Girardi scored the match-winner as the Rangers edged the Arizona Coyotes 3-2, while the Ducks recorded a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

 

CANADIENS BACK IN ACTION

The Montreal Canadiens (4-0-1) have made a flying start to the season and take on the Philadelphia Flyers. The day's only other game sees the Chicago Blackhawks host the Calgary Flames.
