Jagr scores 750th NHL goal, Penguins win

Updated:

The Florida Panthers lost to the Washington Capitals but veteran forward Jaromir Jagr became the third player to score 750 goals in NHL history.

Jagr increased his career tally in the second period as the Panthers went down 4-2 to the Capitals on Thursday.

Reigning champions the Pittsburgh Penguins overturned a two-goal deficit to trump the San Jose Sharks 3-2 in a Stanley Cup final rematch.

The Los Angeles Kings prevailed 4-3 in overtime against the Dallas Stars, snapping a three-game losing streak in the process.

There were also wins for the Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens.

JAGR ETCHES HIS NAME FURTHER INTO HISTORY BOOKS

With his first goal of the season, Jagr now trails Wayne Gretzky (894) and Gordie Howe (801) on the all-time list.

The 44-year-old has amassed 1,870 points in 1,633 games - leaving him only 17 points adrift of Mark Messier (1,887) for second all-time, with Gretzky first (2,857).

PENGUINS UPSTAGE SHARKS...AGAIN!

The Penguins defeated the Sharks 4-2 in the Stanley Cup Finals last season to claim a fourth championship in history.

And Pittsburgh trumped the Sharks once again on Thursday, this time erasing a 2-0 deficit thanks to Evgeni Malkin, Scott Wilson, Patrick Hornqvist.

Hornqvist was the match-winner, scoring with just over five minutes remaining in Pittsburgh.
