Lesia Tsurenko denied Jelena Jankovic back-to-back Guangzhou International Open titles with a 6-4 3-6 6-4 victory in Saturday's final.
Ukrainian Tsurenko raced into a 4-1 lead against the second seed and managed to take the first set with neither player holding serve in the final four games.
After an early exchange of breaks in the second, Jankovic battled from behind to force a decider, converting set point at the first attempt.
The match tightened up from there, but despite dropping her serve to love in game eight, Tsurenko responded positively.
The Ukrainian eked out two break points in the next game, converting the second before serving her way to a second WTA title.
