Golden Lions return to winning ways by thumping Cavaliers

Golden Lions returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, running in nine tries in a 60-12 victory over Boland Cavaliers in the Currie Cup Premier Division.

The Lions were beaten 30-24 by Griquas last weekend, but the defending champions bounced back with an indomitable display in Johannesburg.

Selom Gavor started the scoring when he crossed in the fifth minute and Anthony Volmink, Dillon Smit and Jacques Nel helped secure a 27-12 lead at the interval.

After Victor Sekekete added to the Lions' advantage, Gavor touched down his second before Howard Mnisi, JW Bell and Dylan Smith added three further scores without response.

Griquas followed up their win over the defending champions by beating Pumas 41-35.

Rudi van Rooyen touched down twice while Clinton Stewart kicked for 21 points to edge the win in Nelspruit.
