The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Thisara Perera 15 per cent of his match fee after the Sri Lankan's reaction to taking the wicket of Australia opener David Warner.
Perera had the left-hander caught behind for one as Sri Lanka went on to record an 82-run victory in the second one-day international on Wednesday, levelling the five-match series at 1-1.
But his celebration has landed him in hot water, with the ICC deeming him to have used "language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman".
Meanwhile, Australia's Mitchell Starc was reprimanded for "conduct that is contrary to the spirt of the game".
The left-arm seamer, having completed his third over, threw the ball in the direction of batsman Dinesh Chandimal, who was not attempting a run.
