Qiu Bo's wait for an Olympic gold medal goes on after the Chinese star surprisingly finished sixth in the men's 10 metre platform diving at the Rio Games.
The three-time reigning world champion narrowly missed out in London four years ago, and was unable to make amends in Saturday's event.
Qiu finished sixth - well outside the medals - as countryman Chen Aisen added to his 10m synchronised success alongside Lin Yue and China ended up with seven of Rio 2016's eight diving golds.
The 23-year-old made a bright enough start, but a dive that scored 47.25 points - followed by a later one earning just 47.50 - cost him any chance of a podium finish.
Chen (585.30 total) ended up with gold ahead of Mexico's German Sanchez (532.70) and defending champion David Boudia (525.25) of the United States.
Qiu had been second to his team-mate in the semi-finals, which saw Great Britain's Tom Daley, the bronze medallist in London, fail to qualify.
