Valentino Rossi hopes for better fortunes at the Czech Republic MotoGP this weekend after surrendering plenty of time to fellow Movistar Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo 12 months ago.
The Italian finished over 10 seconds adrift of race winner Lorenzo in 2015, Rossi having to settle for third as his team-mate took another step towards the riders' championship.
Rossi has struggled to consistently finish inside the top three in 2016, with only three podiums in the 10 races so far, while Lorenzo has six.
"I like that we go back on track immediately," said Rossi.
"In Austria [the last race] I wanted to get on the podium, but I wasn't able to unfortunately. Anyway, it was a good race.
"After the tests we were a little bit in trouble, but during the race we didn't do so badly. Now we go to Brno, a track that we know well and that I like very much.
"Last year Jorge was much faster than me and I'm curious to see if this year I will do better. We are working well and the Brno GP is close. I want to get back on track."
Both men trail championship leader Marc Marquez and Lorenzo knows it is imperative they keep the Repsol Honda rider behind them in Brno.
"We need to stay in the fight again and try to recover some more points for the championship," he said.
"I like the Brno circuit a lot because it has plenty of high-speed corners and I have good memories there.
"Last year we dominated the race and I hope to have good feelings there again this time round."
