Tributes have poured in for Dalian Atkinson, the ex-footballer who died after being Tasered by police

Former Aston Villa striker Dalian Atkinson, whose career spanned from the 80s to the 00s, died at 3am this morning after being shot with a Taser by West Mercia Police.

Many have offered their condolences to the 1992 Premier League goal of the season winner - who was only 48 years old - and his family.

Ron Atkinson, who managed Dalian Atkinson at Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa, told Sky Sports: "He always had a smile on his face - and played football with a smile on his face."

"He was popular in the dressing room, had terrific ability and did it in the big games... It's tragic," added the ex-manager.

On Twitter Atkinson's former clubs have offered their condolences.

As have fellow ex-footballers.

As well as current footballers.

And fans from across football...
